Conveyor Accumulation Formula: A Little Math Can Go A Long Way
|
Through the advancement of technology old systems are currently being modified and revamped to suit other purposes. The industrial age along with electricity and the advent of computers have given rise to automated machines. The usual conveyor system transports one material to another. The accumulation conveyor on the other hand serves as a loading dock. They hold the material in a conveyor until it is needed to be released.
Timing is needed in factories especially in production lines. Computers have enabled us to program machines the way we want it. Due to this accumulating conveyors were made to enable manufacturers in controlling the pace of his or her operation. Accumulating conveyors are used when loading trucks. They can be used to hold packages or containers until the truck is ready to be loaded. They can also be used to feed goods or materials to other types of machinery such as a case sealer at a specified time. They come in different models depending on loading requirements. There is light, medium and heavy duty accumulating conveyors. Clients also have the option of choosing from a V-belt or a flat belt for their conveyors. Others have more zones and sensors for added efficiency in handling products. Others are also designed to provide zero pressure accumulation. The accumulating conveyor needs proper timing when attached to a different type of machinery. This is where the conveyor accumulation formula must be determined. The formula basically calculates the speed of the conveyor. The standard speed is 65 feet per minute. You can change the speed of you r conveyor but there are certain points that you have to consider. If you want to increase the speed of your conveyor more horsepower will be needed. The formula is horsepower (which can be found in a chart for a certain conveyor online based on 65 FPM) multiple by desired speed in feet per minute then divided by 65. This will yield the approximate value of the horsepower you need. This will also help you obtain the speed that you want for your conveyor to operate. If you want to move a package at 130 FPM you are going twice the horsepower at 65 FPM. Speed affects the life service of your conveyor so it is important get the right value as much as possible. Your conveyor must have the right components to be able to handle products at a faster speed. You also have to consider the load range of your materials to make sure that your conveyor is built appropriately to handle them. Different type of bearings and belts may be needed for less noise and vibration. The conveyor accumulation formula is an important value to help you tweak your system the way you want it to work. Although it is important to keep up with the demands of the industry you also have to make sure that you have the right equipment.
